ISP Review (ispreview.co.uk)
Having selected BE as an “Editor’s Pick” in the category of Best Balance of Price & Performance ISPs (Consumer), ISP Review notes that BE has “won high praise from around the web, not least for the real-world speed of its services and incredibly low pricing”.
BE Value is an entry level service and broadband product, that provides a solid download speed of up to 10 Mbps for just £17.00 each month; this is a 12 months contract but there is no additional connection charge.
Here are the benefits that you, as an existing customer making the referral, will receive:
Real world speed with a download capability of up to 10Mbps and an upload speed of 1.1Mbps. Furthermore, your supply will never waver and your speed will never be forcibly reduced so as to daisy-chain more customers onto your line of access. Unfortunately, some ISPs in the UK do this as common practice, but BE make sure that this is not the case. They also will not filter your access for downloading large or complex files, or for using the internet at what is considered peak times.
With BE Unlimited downloads you get what you want, without limits, and with a fair usage policy that is actually fair. A wireless modem is also included, so you can access the internet from any room in your home, which is far more convenient and better suited to a home with multiple computers.
Of course, there is also a great customer advice and support centre available at any time on any day should you need them. If you run into any trouble, you can raise a support ticket, start a live chat with a trained technician or alternatively just e-mail or call directly.
BE’s objective is to let customers enjoy a high quality internet service without interruptions or problems for just £17 a month, so refer a friend today and share the benefits!
Zen Internet boasts new Information Centre
Zen Internet is considered to be one of the UK’s biggest independent Internet Service Providers (ISP) and has today firmed this fact thanks to their brand new purpose built data centre.
These new headquarters are located in North West England and were officially opened thanks to the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Councillor Alan Godson and Gillian Brown.
This company is looking to invest in the future and is pumping in £4m into this new data centre which is set to be a part of its unremitting infrastructure growth.
The centre measures an astounding 1350 square metres and adds value to the network’s existing portfolio. It will be able to provide state of the art co-location from less than £60 per month.
As a gesture of good will the company are looking to provide free set-up and a total of three months free rental when it comes to both sharing and dedicated racks.
The company added further that is set on investing into the future of the North West as it was originally founded in Rochdale. Nearly 50 per cent of the work force also lives in and around the new centre.
They have seen remarkable growth over the last few years and have gone on to bigger and brighter things with a number of awards that have been bestowed upon them.
In addition to this, they have been commended by PC Pro and received Which? Recommended Broadband Provider. Even this year they have been awarded with PC Pro Best ISP for the eighth year on the trot.
Win tickets to the F1 British Grand Prix with Sky
It could be argued that British interest in Formula One has never been higher than it is at the moment, given the controversies surrounding Bernie Ecclestone and the recent Bahrain Grand Prix, the rivalry between British drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton (not forgetting Paul Di Resta!) and the acquisition of broadcast rights by Sky after years of BBC coverage.
There is, then, no better time to get yourself a ticket for the Santander British Grand Prix, which takes place at the legendary Silverstone race track on Sunday 8th July. However, tickets are like gold-dust, and chances are you haven’t managed to get your hands on one. Don’t worry, though – Sky has literally hundreds of pairs of grandstand tickets to give away to customers who have the Sky Sports or HD channel pack. All you have to do is sign in with your Sky ID and password, fill in your name and address and answer two Formula One-related questions correctly to be in with a chance of winning. The prize includes two tickets but no travel, although you can get a park and ride pass if you want to drive there.
This will be 52 laps of pure adrenaline – you won’t be able to get the smell of burning rubber out of your nostrils for weeks afterwards! This fantastic, free-to-enter competition closes on May 31st, so don’t miss your chance to experience one of the British sporting events of the summer!
Herefordshire Housing introduces free broadband and tuition to its residents
The days when we could achieve any task we needed to simply by making a bit of effort and thinking about it are well and truly gone. Broadband has come in and made every task we need to perform a lot easier, whether it’s at home or at work.
Herefordshire Housing, the company that provides affordable and secure housing for people in Herefordshire, has recognised that everyone needs to be able to access broadband, and has pledged to bring free broadband to every one of its tenants within the next five years, thanks to a new partnership it has formed with local internet service provider allpay Broadband. In addition, it will provide free help and tuition for anyone that needs a helping hand getting started with using broadband. This broadband will enable children to utilise the internet to do their homework, while their parents will be able to perform any number of tasks including online banking, emailing and shopping.
Wireless broadband will first be installed at three sheltered housing schemes, starting with Innesfield in Clehonger, within Herefordshire. The broadband will provide residents with internet speeds of up to 10Mb, which is a significant improvement on the 2Mb which was all BT was able to provide. Following Innesfield’s connection will be Southgate and Bryngwyn Court – if all goes well at these locations, the broadband will be rolled out on a much wider scale throughout the county over the next few years.
TalkTalk’s Homesafe security service reaches its first birthday
Internet security and safety, especially when children are involved, is an issue that is close to many people’s hearts, especially if they’re parents – we don’t want children to be exposed to anything that may have a negative effect on them.
TalkTalk has been one of the loudest voices calling for more protection to be given to children when they are online. Last year it launched HomeSafe, a new, ground-breaking security system designed to offer the maximum protection to customers. This service has just celebrated its first birthday with over 350,000 people signed up and using it to protect themselves and their kids online every day. Since March 2012 it has been offering customers the option of turning on parental controls when they sign up to the company’s broadband, the only internet service provider to do so. One in three customers have chosen to do so, and 60% of those have said that they probably wouldn’t have done if they hadn’t been asked. This shows that offering people the choice works, and has been the main reason for the service’s successful first year.
The fact that the issue of online security has been brought up by the government hasn’t hurt either – in fact, the Prime Minister has announced plans to hold a formal consultation into the issue. This continued focus at the highest level, coupled with TalkTalk’s aim to reach a million HomeSafe customers, means that the service’s second year looks set to be even more exciting than its first.
O2 More reaches 10 million customers
O2 More has recently reached a huge 10 million customers, this is nearly half of their entire customer base. Find out more about this service and how it has become so successful. It has helped customers find great deals and offers and for companies is an important marketing tool.
O2 Media have recently announced that they have passed 10 million customers for their personalized media platform, O2 More. This impressive statistic means that this now accounts for nearly half of their total customer base, and the figure is similar to the weekly viewing figures for the hugely successful ITV television programme, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
O2 More is an advertising service that uses customer data (with their permission) to deliver them offers and deals by message from brands that are suited to them. This clever advertising service has benefited a number of brands including House of Fraser, the Co-Operative Store and Bulmers Cider. In November 2011 the advertising service had around six million customers, so it has had an impressive few months since then to reach its impressive 10 million now. It was launched in November 2009 and has grown and evolved considerably since then into what it is today.
O2 More sends only one message each day, and could be used as the centre point of a media plan, or alternatively it could be used to give a boost to other campaigns. It now has location based work and often works with other O2 services including Priority Moments and O2 WiFi. The people at O2 believe that there are a few factors that have seen the rise of O2 More, and in particular it’s recent growth in the last six months to see it reach the impressive 10 million customers landmark.
They believe that the rise of smartphones and the advance in mobile phone technology has led to customers having different requirements and therefore this has helped them. The customers of these phones have realised that they can benefit from this advertising service and get deals and offers everyday that can help them. The positive attitude towards these services from O2 has also helped, and also the acknowledgement from brands and companies that the mobile phone form is an important part of marketing and can be very beneficial to them and has added to the success of O2 More.
Ofcom – fearlessly crusading against dastardly TV broadcasters so you can sleep easy at night
Ofcom goes about its business silently and efficiently, like a great white television-regulating shark – you never hear about them until they’ve started investigating you, and by then it’s too late. Never shy to let broadcasters know what they think, they’re the first place to turn to when you need to complain about what your eyes and ears have been subjected to.
What happens when an uncut Eminem song gets played on a TV programme’s soundtrack or graphic footage of a coat hanger abortion pops up on your screen before the 9pm watershed? You probably don’t really need to do anything as thousands of middle-class families will be venting their outrage over Ofcom’s phonelines as soon as they appear, but if you feel strongly about it then there’s no harm in adding your voice to the cacophony – if nothing else, you’ll bump the number of complaints up for the Daily Mail to quote when it gets its teeth into the story.
The way the watchdog works is to investigate every complaint it gets to see if the programme and/or broadcaster is in breach of the Broadcasting Code. These are the rules under which the watershed system, among other things, is enforced. If the watchdog then believes that the Code has been breached, an investigation will be started, and the people involved (as well as the broadcaster as a whole) may be punished in ever more mysterious and grisly ways. Or they might just be fined or suspended for a while. That’ll make them consider the outcomes of their actions.
Gartner positions BT for three network service provider global quadrants
In some cases, recognition from the wider technological community can mean more than recognition from anyone else, and so it would appear in this case – Gartner, Inc. has recently announced that BT Global Services is an international leader in three quadrants across the world.
You would expect BT, as one of the world’s oldest and best-known telecoms companies, to be leading most markets, but the confirmation by Gartner (a well-respected IT research firm based in Connecticut) means a lot to it, judging by the reaction of its CEO, Jeff Kelly, who said that the positioning reflects its success globally and confirms that the improvements and changes made to its global network services were the right ones to take.
The company has been positioned in the Leaders’ Quadrant out of 3 of the Magic Quadrants that the research firm uses: the Pan-European Network Service Providers, Global Network Service Providers, and Asia Pacific Network Service Providers. Positioning is based on the completeness of the company’s vision and its ability to execute it, and the Magic Quadrant system is so lauded that it has enabled companies to become stronger competitors in their respective markets after a strong ranking by the research firm.
The announcement comes on the heels of the company’s own announcement that it has established a new dimension of networks for businesses as a significant new update for BT Connect – although it is still in its early stages, early feedback has been positive, and must surely be the icing on the cake of this new declaration.
Zen Internet reduces cost on all Fibre Optic Broadband installation
Although they probably don’t have to, many companies offer their existing customers deals to help keep them happy, and offer potential new customers deals to help entice them in. Zen Internet has traditionally had a good relationship with its customers, existing or new, and its recently-announced deal is sure to improve that relationship.
Given the economic situation, many businesses are offering reduced deals to customers so that they don’t have to pay as much for important services like broadband, and the company’s new deal reflects that attitude. It has announced that it is slashing the price charged for the installation of its fibre-optic broadband by 25%, a significant saving in today’s market. Because it believes that it has the strongest broadband available, it wants more people to be able to take advantage of it, hence the price slash which should help those sitting on the fence to make their minds up about it. It has also reduced the prices of its Fibre Active products, which vary depending on the product.
In addition, the company has declared that it is doubling the maximum speeds of its broadband, to up to 76Mb for downloads and of up to 19Mb for uploads – the only deal that will not be getting a speed upgrade is the entry-level one. The changes will be brought in from 9th May, and promise to give customers even more bang for their buck.
CityFibre and Fujitsu join forces to deliver pure fibre infrastructure throughout UK cities
CityFibre, one of the companies that is currently leading the fibre optic infrastructure market in the UK, and Fujitsu, the internationally-renowned information technology service provider, ended the month of April with the announcement that they will be teaming up to further the plans of CityFibre to implement advanced pure fibre infrastructures throughout the UK’s second-tier cities.
This is a deal that is reportedly worth an initial £50 million in terms of the estimated contract value for the Japanese company, and marks the second time that the two companies have worked together – Fujitsu constructed the 103k fibre optic network that CityFibre implemented around the historic city of York. The CEOs for the two companies, Greg Mesch (CityFibre) and Andy Stevenson (Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe) have already expressed their delight to be working with each other once again, and will be hoping that this becomes a regular, mutually beneficial partnership.
Under the terms of the deal, Fujitsu will be responsible for the planning, building and eventual operation of CityFibre’s carrier-grade infrastructure. As demonstrated with the work it assisted on in York, the company has a huge amount of experience and capability when it comes to working on big projects, although CityFibre is by no means inexperienced, having made a commitment to create new communications networks rather than renovating the old ones that have surpassed the point at which they were most effective. Nevertheless, Fujitsu’s involvement will surely boost the confidence of everyone else involved that this project can finally get off the ground and deliver everything that has been promised since its announcement. Once the work is completed, it is hoped that the infrastructure will reach over a million homes and 50,000 businesses across the country.
This deal has also highlighted the fact that the residents of smaller cities are not being forgotten as better communications systems are set up – the bigger companies like BT and Virgin are concentrating on getting cities like London and Manchester up to speed, so it is to CityFibre’s credit that smaller cities are still very much on the radar. In addition to this project, the company will also continue to work on its goal of providing staggeringly fast internet speeds of up to 1GB per second to 24,000 homes in the Bournemouth area by the end of the year.
