ITM reveals UK Mobile Broadband LTE upgrade will not take place till 2015
The Informa Telecoms and Media (ITM) agency declared that the mobile broadband technology in UK will not be upgraded to LTE as it would not be “economically viable” till 2015.
The Intelligence firm stated that the infrastructure that needs to be upgraded can still adequately cope with the consumer demands with the existing HSPA networks in the country.
The strategy and marketing intelligence agency suggested that the study of the traffic congestion for mobile broadband indicates that any upgrade to Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network technology will only occur in three years and that too only in selected hotspots.
Senior ITM analyst Dimitris Mavrakis said, “Current UK mobile network deployments are so dense that it would make the introduction of LTE both an investment-heavy and somewhat unjustifiable decision”
Even through this unhappy forecast, last week the joint venture by Mobile Broadband Network Ltd. gave rise to 12,000 3G broadband sites for 3 Mobile and T-Mobile as announced by their spokespersons.
