Point Topic Report states UK 24th on broadband value list
According to a latest report by Point Topic, UK comes 24th in the list of broadband values wherein the consumers pay $0.912 (58p) per Mb on average.
Hong Kong topped the table with $0.028 per Mb followed by Japan, Romania, Sweden, Latvia, China, Singapore, Russia, Germany and Finland. Peru averaged a massive $209 per MB coming at the bottom of the table with South Africa, Kenya and Indonesia also paying over $100 per Mb.
Fiona Vanier, senior analyst at Point Topic believes that broadband consumer tariffs in different countries are affected by ‘geography, market and network maturity, local competition and various levels and sources of subsidy’. She also added that majority of the best tariff services provided were either pure fibre or hybrid offerings. According to her a new tariff or deal would significantly alter the position of the nation on the table.
“Prices are stabilising in many markets around the world and overall in the last quarter there was an average increase globally. However there are plenty of countries that are still rolling out new networks and ISPs that are announcing new tariffs,” Ms Vanier added.
The last month research by Point Topic reported that cost of entry level broadband packages went up in the third quarter of 2010 mainly due to the arrival of multiple new tariffs and deals in the market.
