Full fibre broadband is now available to 24.9 million UK homes, 82% of the total, according to Ofcom's Connected Nations update published on 13 May 2026. The figures are for January 2026.
That's 1.2 million more homes than six months earlier.
The key figures
- Full fibre: 82% of homes, up from 78% in July 2025.
- Gigabit-capable broadband: 89% of homes (27.1 million), up from 87%.
- Superfast broadband (30Mbps+): 98% of homes.
- Take-up: 12.4 million premises now have a full fibre connection, 47% of those that can get one, after 1.8 million more connected in six months.
- No affordable decent broadband: just 4,000 premises, down sharply because cheaper satellite plans arrived in parts of the UK.
How the nations compare
| Homes that can get | Full fibre | Gigabit |
|---|---|---|
| Northern Ireland | 95% | 96% |
| England | 82% | 89% |
| Wales | 82% | 85% |
| Scotland | 75% | 84% |
Northern Ireland remains well ahead. Scotland is still behind the UK average, but its full fibre coverage has risen from 58% to 75% in two years.
Ofcom projects that full fibre could reach 86% to 95% of homes, and gigabit broadband 91% to 97%, by January 2028.
