Questions about this data
- How are the best and worst connected towns ranked?
- By the share of homes that can get gigabit broadband, averaged across the town's postcodes, with each postcode counting equally. Ties are broken by the share of postcodes where all homes can get gigabit. Only towns, villages and cities with at least 100 postcodes are included.
- Does a low gigabit figure mean a town has bad broadband?
- Not necessarily. Gigabit is the top tier. Many of these towns can still get superfast broadband (30Mbps or more), shown in the table, although some cannot get that either.
- Why are there no Northern Ireland towns?
- Town figures are built from Ordnance Survey's OS Open Names, which covers Great Britain. Northern Ireland is included in our council and nation figures.
- Are these figures current?
- They describe networks as measured for Ofcom's January 2026 data, published 13 May 2026. Builders are connecting new streets all the time, so check an address with the postcode checker.

Town figures are the average of each town's postcodes, because Ofcom does not publish premises counts by postcode, so a postcode with ten homes counts the same as one with fifty. Towns come from OS Open Names. See our methodology. Page reviewed 29 October 2026.
